About this place
Savoring exceptionally fresh seafood alongside a well-paired cup of sake is the simple pleasure at the heart of Sakabukuro. The chalkboard and menu lead with a seven-variety sashimi platter, accompanied by a dynamic seafood lineup that shifts with each day's market catch. Because the sashimi assortment can be ordered in portions for one, solo guests dropping in on a whim can still sample a colorful spectrum of seasonal fish a few slices at a time.
Beyond raw preparations, the kitchen devotes equal care to grilled items, fried dishes, and small appetisers designed for drinking. Charcoal-grilled fish collars deliver smoky aromas, while a fluffy, tender dashimaki rolled omelet provides a comforting standard that keeps chopsticks moving. Creative small plates centered on tuna and assorted obanzai—traditional Kyoto-style side dishes—offer plenty of variety for whatever mood strikes.
The sake selection spans various serving temperatures from chilled to warmed, highlighting regional junmai bottlings such as Ryozeki from Akita, Hanatomoe from Nara, and Kirei from Hiroshima. When unsure which profile best complements the meal, conferring with the staff makes for an engaging part of the dining experience.
To round out the evening, comforting carbs take center stage: a mini soy sauce ramen infused with seafood broth, clam and fresh nori rice porridge, or a slow-cooked clay pot rice studded with sakura shrimp. Served in a modest bowl, the ramen offers a gentle, satisfying finish after an evening of drinks.
Inside, a convivial counter accommodates solo diners comfortably, while tatami seating in the back allows small groups to settle in at leisure. Operating Monday through Saturday from 17:00 to 23:30, the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Dinner reservations are accepted, making it a reliable option whenever the evening calls for fresh fish and good sake.
